The multi-series area chart is rendered with data values pointed as data points that are connected using line segments. The area between the line segments and the x-axis/edges of other charts is filled with color. This chart puts emphasis on the magnitude of change over time and effectively highlights the total value across a trend. For example, when visualizing sales data, this chart can be used to show total sales over time.

Best Practices for Multi-Series Area Charts

• Datasets with similar values will overlap so the area fill color should be applied carefully to easily identify different datasets and avoid any visual clutter.
• Arrange data to position categories with highly variable data at the top of the chart and the ones low variability at the bottom.
