How Americans Die
Data Story by FusionCharts

This interactive Data Story helps understand the declining mortality trend, improving life expectancy trend, and the cause of death across different age groups in the US. It highlights that for a substantial period of time, a large segment of the African American male population died of AIDS. It also shows how people in the age group of 45-54 years are more prone to death by suicide or drug over-use, rather than cancer or heart disease. It raises pertinent questions, like although a third of total deaths cover 85+ year-olds, US healthcare spending towards nursing and retirement homes have remained flat over the last decade.
