Tree map with squarified layout Part of PowerCharts XT
A treemap chart is used for analysis of hierarchical data. The chart is visualized using nested 2D rectangles that represent the nodes and leaves of the tree data structure. The drill-down feature of the chart allows studying data at all levels of the hierarchy by clicking a child node to drill down further. The parent node can be clicked to drill up. Quantity is assigned to a category and its area size is displayed in proportion to that quantity and to the other quantities within the same parent category in a part-to-whole relationship. Depending on the use-case, a gradient legend is rendered at the bottom of the treemap chart. The gradient legend uses sliders to filter data based on the range of values. This chart can be used to study the country-wise sales of a product; it can be drilled-down to study the region wise and city wise sales.
Best Practices for Treemap Squarified Layout :
- Data labels can be hidden and made visible only while hovering over a node to avoid clutter and enhance the visualization.
- To neutralize the contrast of the label against the multi coloured background and ensure legibility, add a glow around the text.
- Appropriate numerical ranges that enable a fairly even distribution of data between them and use suitable colors for these data ranges.
